Recharge via a branded webshop or kiosk, and effortlessly pay for food, drinks and merchandise. Discover how convenience, fun and music go hand in hand in this collaboration.
Liquicity Festival
Liquicity Festival is an annual music festival in the Netherlands known for its focus on drum & bass music styles. The festival offers a fantastic experience where lovers of electronic music come together to dance to the beats of national and international DJs and artists. The atmosphere at Liquicity Festival is characterized by positive vibes, a sense of community and a shared passion for music. In addition to the music, the festival features a variety of fun activities and opportunities to meet new people and experience electronic music culture together.
The challenge
Stress-free payment and enjoyment
The goal was to implement an efficient payment system with wristbands and QR codes to improve the festival experience for all visitors. Traditional payment methods such as cash or bank cards can lead to long queues and delays at the bar, food trucks and merchandise points. By introducing an innovative and automated system, they wanted to provide a smooth and stress-free payment experience, allowing people to spend more time enjoying the music and activities at the festival.

The solution
Wristbands and QR codes for easy payment
Upon entry, all visitors received a wristband with a unique QR code. By scanning this, they could recharge their band via the Liquicity branded webshop, created by Sjef, without the need for an account. In addition to the webshop, there were also 10 manned counters where people could recharge their band with pin or cash. There were also kiosks on the festival grounds where visitors could have their QR code scanned to top up the balance. This allowed festival-goers to conveniently pay at all bars, food trucks and merchandise points with their wristbands. In the end, 71% of festival-goers recharged their wristbands through the webshop and the remaining 29% through the kiosks.

Results
Enhanced festival experience with cashless payment system
The cashless payment system with wristbands and QR codes provided an enhanced festival experience at Liquicity. Partly due to the cooperation with Virtical for stable internet, smooth operation of the system was ensured. Visitors could, without needing an account, easily recharge their balance through the special webshop of Sjef. Convenient kiosks, scattered throughout the festival grounds and campsite, offered additional options for topping up the balance. The efficient system reduced waiting times, improved organization and created a hassle-free experience, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the festival. In total, there were 10 kiosks, five in the campground and five on the festival grounds. The bands everyone received at the beginning of the festival had an NFC card and were handed out at the entrance. LIQ was Liquicity's own currency and during 3 days, 20,000 festival-goers came to the festival.
